The client at Express Yourself Speech Pathology Services was focused primarily on the appearance of her website. She already had content written, but wanted it to appear within a design that was fun, bright, colorful and childlike to appeal to her target audience. I thought about the company name and decided to use art to visually communicate the idea of “Express Yourself.” The original logo was replaced with an image of hands covered in paint and I found a playful font to use for the company name and page headers. The site is further enhanced with a piece of child’s artwork serving as the background and childlike images communicating the message of each page (ex. a toy phone is used on the Contact Us page). The homepage image ties together the message of expressing oneself with the business offering of speech pathology.

After a three hour WordPress training session at her Atlanta office, the client is now maintaining the site content herself within the structure I established.

Perennial Properties understands the importance of adding fresh content (aka blogging) to a business’s website. When their original writer left in fall of 2011, they hired me as their blog copywriter with the goal of talking up the benefits of living in town and driving traffic to the websites of their retail clients. Two to three times a week, I write a post about an event, a great deal, or a development in the growth of Atlanta that ties back to one of the apartments, restaurants or shops operating at a Perennial property. The posts help the retailers’ businesses which in turn helps Perennial’s business. Posts are shared across a variety of social media outlets to maximize reach. You can read all the articles here.

Website Design & Development – I wanted the photography to be the focus of the Aunt Bobo Photography website (my side business here in Atlanta). To accomplish this, I chose a simple white design and gallery functionality that displayed large photos with captions. It is super easy to add new photos each time I capture a great one. The site includes content that describes services, information about me and a simple contact form.

Facebook Marketing – I also created a Facebook business page to promote Aunt Bobo Photography. I use the functionality Facebook provides to recruit followers and post new photos and messages to the wall to keep fans up to date with the work I am doing. The info tab allows me to provide a description of the business purpose, contact info and a link to my website for more information.

Digital Image Matters is serving in a comprehensive online marketing capacity for Fox+Mattson, P.C., an Atlanta law firm specializing in wills, trusts, probate, corporation & LLC matters, elder law matters, and business & personal agreements. The content below provides an overview of the work we have done since summer 2011 including blog development, email marketing, online profile management, social media marketing and promotional item creation (an offline piece).

Blog Design and Development – When I first met with Fox+Mattson, P.C., it was clear that the firm’s website needed to be reworked in WordPress. The site requires a skilled coder to make updates which makes regular maintenance difficult, and contains flash which is not viewable on mobile phones or tablets. The client’s main focus, however, was to begin communicating regularly with potential clients via blog posts, emails and social media. For that reason, we created a separate site on a separate url to house the blog content. Our next step is to convert the blog to become the primary website for the firm. 90% of the work is done as the blog site contains firm bios, contact information, and other standard company website components; we just need to create a true homepage and add a section describing the firm’s services. Stay tuned.

Blog Article Writing – The lead attorney at Fox+Mattson, P.C. writes an article about once a month for the firm’s blog. The client emails each article to me once it has been drafted so I can review it through the lens of a non-lawyer (consistent with the blog’s audience) and from a digital point of view. I typically propose a handful of edits and questions for him to consider. The client then makes any necessary adjustments and sends over the final version for me to post to the blog. (Note – for other clients, I create the initial article draft. The process can work either way.)

Email Marketing: Template Design and Send Management – Once we had the blog set up, the next step was to get all the great content out to clients, friends and partners via email marketing. I designed a template and imported the firm’s contacts using a great email management service called MailChimp. We send monthly emails on a variety of topics and review the detailed reports MailChimp provides after each send to optimize things like messaging and timing prior to the next send.

Social Media Marketing – In addition to sending an email to the firm’s roughly 1,000 list members each time a new blog article is posted, we also post a link to each article on the firm’s Facebook page where approximately 100 people currently follow the firm. Firm employees share the post on their personal Facebook pages which exposes the information to exponentially larger audiences (who themselves can share). To further maximize the reach of each article, we also post (manually or via automatic pulls) to the firm’s pages on Google+, LinkedIn and a variety of legal websites I mention below. (*Note the header image we created to take advantage of Facebook’s new timeline structure.)

Online Reputation Management - Like all individuals and businesses, the firm and lawyers at Fox+Mattson, P.C. are mentioned across the web on a variety of third party websites. Though they did not create these online profiles themselves, the listings appear upon a Google search for the firm or individual attorney’s name. It is, therefore, critical to make sure these sites present accurate, positive information. Fortunately, most reputable third party sites allow individuals to “claim” their online profile and make updates, which is exactly what we did on legal industry sites like Martindale-Hubbell, Lawyers.com, Avvo, Justia and Manta. Each of the third party profiles now includes links to the firm’s web properties and I can see the traffic they drive to the firm sites in our tracking reports.

Promo Item Creation – In addition to online work, Fox+Mattson, P.C. wanted to create an item to hand out to potential clients that was more memorable than the typical pen or mug. The result was the creation of a DigiClean, a microfiber screen cleaner that sticks to phones, iPads and computers. The choice of a marketing item like DigiClean reflects the progressive nature of the firm, and the item itself is unique and something recipients are likely to use and show others. We designed the cleaner to appear on business card-sized glossy paper containing branded firm information. This choice allowed the cleaner delivery mechanism (the paper card) to serve a secondary purpose, as a business card, after recipients removed the grey phone cleaner portion. Removal of the cleaner from the card reveals a QR code (image on right) leading people to the blog.

Logo Design - I provided direction to designers to create a logo that speaks to the key messages of the practice. The logo depicts the visual images of a family and a tooth in a modern, colorful manner.

Favicon Creation - I used the image from the logo to create a favicon (small image that appears on a browser tab). Favicons allow website users to easily identify a website when multiple browser tabs are open.
